Before using this estimate

A found layout is mathematical fit only. It does not establish a safe loading path, adequate tie-down access, axle balance, tongue weight, ramp/gate clearance, brakes, tow-vehicle rating, legal compliance, or component capacity. Rotation may be impossible to load. Weigh the loaded trailer and follow manufacturer instructions and applicable rules.

How the calculation works

The layout solver tests recursive row and column splits for two to four rectangular footprints, with each allowed 90° orientation. Group gaps are included at each split; outer clearance is removed from all four deck edges. It keeps non-dominated bounding boxes. Loaded weight = empty trailer + entered machine weights + other cargo.

Worked example

On a 240 × 82-inch deck with 3 inches of outer clearance, usable space is 234 × 76 inches. Illustrative 80 × 48 and 120 × 64-inch footprints with a 6-inch gap fit lengthwise in a 206 × 64-inch envelope. At 800 and 1,500 lb, plus a 1,500 lb empty trailer and 100 lb of gear, total loaded weight is 3,900 lb.

What layouts are tested

The solver tries arrangements formed by recursively combining rows and columns, including mixed individual rotations when enabled. It is complete for two axis-aligned rectangles separated by the entered gap, but it is not a general irregular-shape or arbitrary packing solver. For larger groups, “no fit found” means no fit among the tested family; a different real layout may exist.

Why a footprint is only the beginning

Measure overall transport dimensions, including bumpers and accessories. Wheel wells, rails, gates, and ramps can shrink the usable deck and loading path. The diagram shows bounding rectangles, not wheel contact or axle positions. Use loaded operating weights with fuel and gear, not incomplete dry weights.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix different machine sizes?

Yes. Each of two to four machines has its own length, width, and loaded weight.

What does the diagram prove?

Only the found rectangles and their gaps fit in the entered deck envelope. It does not validate wheel support, restraints, load balance, or loading access.

Can it fit machines diagonally?

No. It checks axis-aligned lengthwise and 90° rotated rectangles. Irregular shapes and diagonal loading are outside this model.
