LOAD PLANNING

Payload Calculator

Build a weight budget using your vehicle’s rated total capacity. Include every person and each added load.

Your measurements

Use the total vehicle capacity from your manual, not only the cargo-bed rating.

Follow the manufacturer’s definition of payload. If fuel is included in its rated operating weight, do not count fuel again.

Before you act on this result

Being under total payload does not prove the bed, racks, seats, hitch, tires, or axles are within their individual limits. Keep loads secured and follow the manual’s load distribution and towing restrictions. Never add passengers beyond approved seating.

How this calculator works

Used payload = operator/passengers + cargo + added accessories + tongue weight. Remaining payload = rated capacity − used payload. Used percentage = used payload ÷ rated capacity × 100.

Worked example

A 1,000 lb rating with 360 lb of riders, 200 lb of cargo, 100 lb of accessories, and 75 lb of tongue weight leaves 265 lb of total-capacity headroom.

Common questions

Does trailer weight count as payload?

The tongue load supported by the machine generally contributes to its load budget. The entire trailer weight is a separate towing check. Follow the exact limits and definitions in your owner’s manual.
