Measure usable space, not the sales description
A trailer sold by nominal deck size may lose usable space at gates, side rails, wheel wells, or a sloped front section. Measure the flat supporting deck length and its narrowest useful width. Measure the gate opening independently: a machine that fits once aboard may not pass through it.
Measure the machine as transported
Include tire width, bumpers, racks, and mounted accessories in the transport footprint. Use the overall length and maximum width in the intended loading configuration. Mirrors or tall accessories may create separate gate or enclosure-clearance issues. The calculator checks length and width only, so height requires a separate measurement.
Allow space for loading and securing
Zero-clearance mathematical fit is a poor loading plan. Enter outer-edge clearance and gaps between machines to leave room for access and restraints. The calculator lays out identical machines in uniform rows and columns. It can compare a rotated orientation, but it cannot assess whether turning or ramp loading into that orientation is practical.
Check the trailer’s weight budget
Trailer payload is GVWR minus actual empty trailer weight. Include machine operating weight, carried fuel, cargo, tools, and trailer accessories that are not already included in the empty measurement. For example, a 3,500 lb GVWR and 1,000 lb empty weight provide 2,500 lb of trailer payload. Two machines weighing 1,400 lb each exceed that payload before additional gear.
Verify the complete towing system
A geometry and total-weight check does not validate the tow vehicle, hitch, ball, coupler, axles, tires, brakes, ramps, or tie-down equipment. Check their individual ratings and manufacturer instructions. Arrange loads to meet the trailer maker’s tongue-weight and balance guidance, and measure actual loaded weights when possible. Secure the machines to approved points and recheck restraints during travel.
